About the Artwork

Originally designed as part of the "Artists For Ukraine" charity fundraiser, this piece features a woman wearing traditional Ukrainian dress including the traditional flower headress known as a Vinok. These flower crowns are traditionally worn to symbolise innocence and in more contemporary times national pride. The artist has created this particular Vinok using flowers such as the rose to symbolise passion, the iris which represents hope, faith and valour while the nasturtium symbolise patriotism and victory in battle. The woman's head is framed by a rose window however the shape has been modified to reflect a sunflower- the traditional flower of the Ukraine.
